Honest words
on widowhood,
loss & living again.

I'm Jessica Foley — a Canadian writer, young widow, and mama of 2 from Newfoundland. Widowed while pregnant in 2019, I write all my own words on grief, widowhood, and the messy, honest reality of life after loss. Join a community of over 32,000 widows and grievers who know they are not alone.

Jessica Foley

Young widow.
Canadian writer.
Grief community builder.

On May 26, 2019, my husband Steven Trickett was running the Ottawa Half Marathon when he went into fatal cardiac arrest metres from the finish line. I was seven months pregnant. Our daughter was two. I became a young widow overnight — and I had no idea how to survive it.

In the years since, I've navigated widowhood, single parenthood, and grief one honest word at a time. I write all my own words on Instagram @grief.unravelled — raw, real writing on what it means to be a young widow in Canada and around the world. Today, over 32,000 people in the grief community call this space home.

I'm from Newfoundland, Canada — a proud mama of two daughters, a runner, and a storyteller. My story has been featured in CBC News, the Ottawa Citizen, Travel + Leisure, Canadian Running Magazine, and more.

If you are a widow, a griever, or someone who has loved and lost — this space was built for you. You are not alone here.
